Aveeno Cream; Product Review

Image
Hey Psquad, So one of the latest products that I have been using is the Aveeno Cream with Colloidal Oatmeal. It is for dry and sensitive skin (two words that scream the definition of psoriasis). It does say on the bottle "suitable for adults and babies from 3 months who may be prone to eczema" Helloskin summarise the product ; This non-greasy cream from Aveeno , formulated with colloidal oatmeal, helps prevent water loss from your skin by rebuilding the skin’s natural barrier. Aveeno Moisturising Cream has a fast absorption time that makes it convenient for use during the day. Aveeno Cream helps soothe and hydrate dry skin and is suitable for every part of the body. It contains refined oatmeal that is proven to rebuild the natural skin barrier and is free from parabens. The active colloidal oatmeal in Aveeno Moisturising Cream acts as a moisturiser for dry and sensitive skin with effect for 24 hours. My routine ; Usually for these type of cream I wi...

Review; Sanex AtopiCare Moisturiser

Image
Hey Psquad,  How is everyone?! The latest product that I have tried is: Sanex AtopiCare: I became interested in trying this product when I saw it on the TV...I was like 'oooooo...I wonder how that'll work with my psoriasis', and off I marched to the shop to buy some.  I currently use Sanex Dermo Hypo-Allergenic as my body wash, so thought it'd be a good addition of product for me to try! Whilst I use the body wash...I really wasn't aware of the skin moisturising range that they did. I was torn between two moisturisers and stood in the shop for a good 10mins debating which one I was going to actually use. In the end this product won because; "For extra dry, reactive, even atopic skin. Control skin hypersensitivity. Fights severe dryness. Soothes itchiness" < ticks quite a lot of boxes for what I want in a moisturiser.  Product Info; I bought my bottles from Wilkinson, they're usually £6.00 per 400ml bottle but I bought...

My South Africa Story

Image
Hey Psquad, It's pretty chilly in England 24/7. Even our summer is winteresque to most. I recently went to South Africa for a friend's wedding. Now, South Africa is hotter than England, and I didn't want to wear neck to ankle clothing. I wore shorts or dresses a lot of the time (it was pretty windy whilst I was there so wore leggings a fair amount too). The dresses were 3/4sleeves so my arm pso wasn't on show. With the shorts I'd wear a top/lightweight cardi combo, or a 3/4 sleeve....or even a jumper if it was cold in the eve. Mostly people saw the pso on my legs, but if I was soaking in the sun (a great way to help pso calm down) I'd just have a vest top on. My friends knew my skin condition story, but their families and friends didn't. I had gotten pretty used to not being ask pso questions as it's never really on show here. So when I wore shorts/dresses around others who didn't 'know' me and they saw my pso...you could see the glances, a...

Turmeric Cream Review

Image
First review of 2016 :) Info : So after trying out the turmeric cream for a few weeks, I have come to LOVE IT.  I tried one from the brand called "Passport to Organics". This is a cream that is meant for your face and neck so please note that I only used it on my face and neck...not over my whole body. There was a very herby smell to the cream which is not like any other product that I have tried before. I used only the turmeric cream for about 3-4 weeks (well, I used up the whole tube) and instantly loved the results. I would put the cream on about twice in the morning before I did my makeup and then about twice at night before I was going to go to sleep. It dried very fast so I didn’t need to worry about my face being greasy and not being able to put my makeup on in the morning before I left the house. I saw that straight away the redness of my psoriasis patches was decreased and the flakiness of the skin was gone. I love when a cream can so this as those are two of th...

Vaseline Review (petroleum jelly product)

Hey there beautiful people, It has been a while since I have written a post.  I have been a bit here and there in my life, moving countries and what not. Sadly the last thing that I was able to keep up with was my blog. However, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been thinking of stuff that I need to write about. I have recently moved from a tropical, humid country back to England…a cold, dry country. Whilst it has been a struggle to adjust, the hardest and most stressful part has been trying to deal with my psoriasis flare up. What have I been doing you ask? Well, I have been spending a lot of time inside (not specifically because of my psoriasis – just because I am home for the holidays) without makeup on and constantly treating my psoriasis. I like to not wear makeup as much as possible as I am pretty sure the makeup I use doesn’t help my psoriasis what so ever (I am not very makeup knowledgeable soooooo have used the same stuff since I was about 15!)  but thi...

Guest Post - Sausage Tree Products

Image
Hi my name is Marcie, I suffered from psoriasis for about 10 years starting at the age of 16 and on into my mid-twenties.  It was painful and itchy but worse than that; it caused me social anxiety and unhappiness.  Psoriasis was preventing me from living the life I wanted to live.  It’s something you have to be tough to deal with or you become tough.  I spent a lot of those years learning about psoriasis; its causes and treatments and also how your diet, lifestyle and exercise can help.  By 2008 my psoriasis was in remission and I was back to living the life I wanted to live.  Instrumental in my recovery was of course diet (paleo, probiotics), getting regular exercise, good sleep and trial and error with topical treatments. One topical treatment in particular that helped me was Sausage Tree Cream .  Its key ingredient comes from a special plant called the Sausage Tree which is indigenous to Southern Africa.  I learned about the plant du...

Think Twice Campaign

I received an email about a new website that had been created related to Psoriasis. Within that email was the information provided below. It summarises what the concept is behind the website and what their aims are. I have also looked into the site and will talk about it below the quoted text below. (It says in it “the website will launch tomorrow” – it has already launched) ________________ For the 1.8 million people known to have psoriasis in the UK lack of regular review highlighted by a recent survey could mean that serious comorbidities such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer are missed. New survey data show that: • 1/3 of psoriasis patients haven't had treatment reviewed in at least five years • 1/2 of psoriasis patients are on a repeat prescription • Almost 60% of psoriasis patients on a repeat prescription felt at a disadvantage   Lack of regular review highlighted by survey could mean that serious co...

Poll = "Does psoriasis effect your self-confidence?"

Image
Hello all you beauties!  I have created another chart from the second poll that I had on my page. There were less votes for this one as I think that I had it on the page for less time overall. However, every single vote is important to me regardless of overall numbers.  I hope that this gives you piece of mind, to know that there are others out there who think and feel exactly the same.  I know that I am lacking in the confidence department, so don't feel disheartened that you are, most of us are!  I do want to pay special note to those awesome people out there that voted "I honestly don't care what people think" - I hope to be in your category one day. I hope we all make it there :)  Let me know if you have any ideas for poll questions. I have put the third one up now, so please go vote! :D

Poll = "What do you think is the worst thing related to having psoriasis?"

Image
I am very excited for this; this is the data that was collected from the question poll on my page! I hope these polls will highlight that the feelings associated with psoriasis and to show others outlooks on having the condition. This is the data from the first poll: I hope these polls will highlight that the feelings associated with psoriasis and to show others outlooks on having the condition.  If you have any ideas for new poll questions;anything that you personally want to know or and questions you have, then comment below and I will create one.

Guest Post - Russell's Story

Image
This is a beautifully written account by Russell. He took the time out to write about his experiences with psoriasis and has courageously let me share that story with you. Russell's E-mail: I tried most of the creams you have written about but nothing really worked for me. Things just got worse. I did a great deal of research and found three things that have worked well to minimise the effects of Psoriasis. I developed it when I moved to a desert country, whether that was the trigger or not, I'm unsure. The four things I tried were a healthy diet to detoxify, exposure to sunlight (UV), exercise to de-stress and a good cream regime. I went on a strict four month detox diet. Within 3 weeks the small hard itchy areas that had started to develop receded back to normal skin conditions. I cut out sugar, processed foods, yeast, all oils (except small amounts of olive oil), cut down on red meat, no coffee, dairy products especially butter, cheese as well as mar...

Tar Shampoo; what I use and their reviews!

Image
So, saw this article in the Daily Mail titled; “ Coal tar shampoo was a standby for psoriasis and eczema. So why HAS this trusted skin treatment disappeared? ” and I got a bit worried. I really hope that tar shampoos are not going to disappear. They may not completely clear up psoriasis but for me they really help with controlling my scratching and of course they do help with psoriasis symptoms – less flakes, less bleeding, less pain, less itchiness. Plus, personally, I really like the smell of them. I tend to get really bad psoriasis in my scalp. I think I make it worse as I am really bad when it comes to scratching it. However, the worst part is that I don’t realize I am scratching it until it’s too late and I have already made it worse. I guess it is one of those bad habits you develop over the years and just become oblivious to. At home I have always used some kind of tar shampoo and I think I always will. Over the years I have enjoyed using them. They stop the scalp ...

Bio-Oil

Image
So, I know that Bio-oil is most commonly used as a product to help with stretch marks and uneven skin tone, but I thought that if it would/could help with that, then maybe it will help with the roughness of my skin that is caused by psoriasis. I also have un-even skin tone where the areas of psoriasis are redder than my very pale skin. When an area of psoriasis starts to get better, I also end up with a silver tinted skin patch which looks the same as a scar; therefore, I decided to see what bio-oil does to my skin condition and whether or not it helped. Info: You can buy Bio-Oil in most places. I found this specific one from Costco but I am sure that they are everywhere (Boots/Tesco/Superdrug) or somewhere online. A description of their product that they have online: “ Bio‑Oil is a specialist skincare oil that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is also effective for ageing and dehydrated skin. Bio‑Oil has won 167 skinc...
