My South Africa Story

Image
Hey Psquad, It's pretty chilly in England 24/7. Even our summer is winteresque to most. I recently went to South Africa for a friend's wedding. Now, South Africa is hotter than England, and I didn't want to wear neck to ankle clothing. I wore shorts or dresses a lot of the time (it was pretty windy whilst I was there so wore leggings a fair amount too). The dresses were 3/4sleeves so my arm pso wasn't on show. With the shorts I'd wear a top/lightweight cardi combo, or a 3/4 sleeve....or even a jumper if it was cold in the eve. Mostly people saw the pso on my legs, but if I was soaking in the sun (a great way to help pso calm down) I'd just have a vest top on. My friends knew my skin condition story, but their families and friends didn't. I had gotten pretty used to not being ask pso questions as it's never really on show here. So when I wore shorts/dresses around others who didn't 'know' me and they saw my pso...you could see the glances, a...

TV Documentary - Betty

Image
Hello all, I have been contacted by Betty who is a company that produces “ high quality factual television.” ( http://www.betty.co.uk/ ) Let me tell you why :) What did they contact about? They are creating a new documentary that is being made and broadcasted in the UK (therefore only people actually within the UK can be a part of the documentary). Their inspiration for this programme is “ to raise awareness about psoriasis and other conditions by following people as they try to regain confidence and try to find love.” This, to me, sounds like a very helpful documentary for those who have psoriasis. It will bring to light the fact that we are not alone and that the problems that we face daily – others also face! Plus, raising awareness of psoriasis can help widen understanding and acknowledgment and reduce prejudice. Do note that this documentary isn’t just aimed at people with psoriasis. It is hoping to cover a wide variety of medical conditions that effect...

A documentary called “Skin Deep”

Image
Being contacted by the British Skin Foundation was a compliment but being e-mailed by someone to be a part in their documentary about the effects of Psoriasis is more than I could have asked for. I have never really been one of those people who enjoys their photo being taken (unless it is by myself so if it looks hideous it can easily be deleted and unseen by anyone), let alone being videoed talking openly about something which I don’t even like to think about. BUT I started this blog for a reason and to have other people contact me to help them raise awareness of psoriasis is not something which I can turn a blind eye to. Hayley Arnold  is a final year university student and has taken it upon herself to create a documentary dedicated to psoriasis as she comes from a family who knows and understands the detrimental effect that it can have. I think that this is a really honourable thing to do and could never imagine saying no to a project as special as this....
