Cutting out Pork and Red Meat

Background:
I was advised by a family member who was looking into the causes of psoriasis that pork can cause the condition to flare up. I've not really thought massively about the way that psoriasis can be affected internally from the food and drink that i consume. Throughout the stages where my psoriasis has felt the worst, i was eating a lot of pork meals for dinner (pork belly/chops etc...) so i have decided to completely cut out pork and see if it makes my skin feel any better without changing my skin routine.

The outcome:
Well, i am pretty sure that i wont be choosing to eat pork for a long time!!
Since i haven't had pork my skin has actually improved a fair amount. In the areas that i didn't really have psoriasis before - that have recently come flared up for no reason - it has become a lot better without me actually changing anything that I've done to my moisturising routine.
I have never really been a massive fan of pork so cutting it out of my diet is not going to be a huge deal for me. Bacon however, i don't think i'll be able to cut out, but as it is anyway, i don't eat a lot of it.

I then went a bit more drastic and have decided to cut out most red meat and see if that makes a change - I am surprised by the way that my skin has changed!! It has got a lot better since I cut out all red meats and I am happy to keep this up. Maybe if you never ate pork in the first place so wouldn't be interested in cutting it out, but do eat a lot of red meat, maybe you should try a detox from it for a month or so and see if it makes a difference for you :D

Its nice to know that since i have wanted to cut pork/red meat out my family have supported me by not actually cooking it for a dinner - which in turn makes it a lot easier as there aren't multiple meals being cooked at home.

If you wanted to try cutting out pork/red meat if its a food that you eat a lot, i think it is worth a go. It might not work for everyone, or anyone other than me, but it cant hurt to try and see if it makes a difference for you.

Alternatives:
If you really are a fan of pork/red meat and think that you will want to have it in your diet you could try Quorn food. It doesn't taste the same BUT it doesn't taste bad either - especially in meals where you can't really taste the difference. For chilli and bolognese meals I use Quorn mince which is better for you as beef is also on the list of foods which can flare up psoriasis.

If you wanted to have a look for yourself at some of the foods which are recommended to avoid, have a look at this site "Good/Bad Foods for Psoriasis" and see if there is anything which you want to try cutting out that you didn't realise could affect your psoriasis. There is a lot of food and drink on these lists which can be pretty overwhelming and to be honest its not realistic to want to cut them all out, but a few here and there that you aren't a massive fan of anyway couldn't hurt!!

Let me know if anything works for you :)
